A story about me
Hey there! My name is Sarina Nicole and I am a true Caribbean girl (half Trinidadian, half Jamaican).
Cooking has been a passion of mine since the late 1990’s when I discovered the Food Network. I read cookbooks like people read the newspaper and love to entertain, throwing dinner parties for my nearest and dearest.
Recently I started TriniGourmet.com in an effort to highlight the cuisine of the Caribbean, and especially that of my native Trinidad, that has remained unexplored by the larger global market. This is something that I hope that my participation in 43things can contribute towards undoing.
Cooking and food is something that I feel very passionate about, from the simplest garlic butter to the most lavish chocolate cake. By writing, photographing, linking and sharing my passion with you I help to keep a smile on my face, and I think we all agree that a smiley face is a very pleasant thing :D
In my past life I had a successful career as an intuitive Life/Business coach, however health issues and a car accident in 2006 have limited my mobility and ability to practice. Feel free to visit my coaching site though, even though I am on extended leave there is still a lot of free useful information there that may interest you.
I am a 1998 Departmental Honors Graduate (accelerated program) in Film and Sociology from Smith College, Massachusets, USA. While in college I produced and scripted several pieces for broadcast on community television and PBS, as well as a critically appraised short film. My work in multimedia taught me the importance of using different modes of conveying information for maximum retention. A skill that I incorporated in my life coaching pratice until recently (due to health issues and a car accident :()
Upon graduation I worked for one year in software development in Connecticut. With the skills that I developed in that position I returned to my native Trinidad a year later and launched several successful endeavours between 1999 and 2004:
• Trinidad-Online.org (a cultural web portal) which was featured, along with its creator, in the book “Ethnography and the Internet”
• De Rumshop Lime (for many years the largest Trinidadian chat community on the Internet and still very active)
• Kalypso, a self-published political publication
• Taurus Designs (a freelance marketing, copywriting, graphic design business)
• Underwire a critically acclaimed Trinidad and Caribbean music internet radio station which was featured in the book “Rough Guide To Internet Radio”.
In my free time I enjoy reading, cooking (duh!), developing aromatherapy treatments and products, as well as scriptwriting.
I am High Functioning Autistic/Aspie – what does this mean?
